On June 7th, 2019 Netflix released the first season of "The Chef Show"; a new cooking documentary/show presented by Jon Favreau (writer, director, actor and producer of the original film "Chef" released in 2014) and Roy Choi.
For those of you not familiar with the Los Angeles Food Truck scene, Roy Choi is the Korean American Chef responsible for creating the gourmet Mexican-Korean Taco truck Kogi and its delicious tacos.
This show is light, refreshing and it will make you salivate...heavily. The film quality, editing and sound are excellent for a street style documentary and both presenters not only have great chemistry (developed from their work together on the movie Chef) but they are actually entertaining to watch.
Plus they bring a ton of different celebrities from the Marvel Universe like Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. as well as culinary stars and well known cooks like ever-present TV/Chef David Chang and chef, author, radio host and restaurant owner Evan Kleiman.
This show is not pretentious nor is it overly "hipster and over the top original". It just makes you happy. It makes you want to eat! It has also got some pretty cute stop animation scenes breaking down the dishes cooked on the show. I would say it is a perfectly created show for foodies.
Watch dishes being made like incredible grilled cheese, cuban sandwiches with mojo pork, pad see mao (Thai drunken noodles) and even a cauliflower pizza courtesy of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.
DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW HUNGRY or without food nearby...you've been warned.
I highly hope Netflix gets another season going and released soon!
